Perfect for a peaceful getaway
The staff were kind, especially when the night porter met me at 2:30 AM to check me in after my car problem.
Not exactly cheap, but what can you expect for a good stay.

Super location overlooking the city, helpful staff, basic but pleasant rooms.
Limited breakfast facilities, rather noisy and no reasonably priced restaurants nearby.

I had a convenient and cozy room with exceptionally comfortable bed and central heating, multi-channel television and a writing table. The location was fab needless to say I removed ourselves to a more accommodating restaurant elsewhere and the staff here was tremendous and outstanding.

We stayed at the Artetxe hotel for two nights in mid July on our trip to Pais Vasco. What convinced us to make the booking was primarily the location - not far away from Bilbao city center and with a parking place. We mostly used the funicular to get to the city center and a taxi to get back. We were welcomed by Eva - an exceptionally nice and effective receptionist who gave us all sort of useful information. She was extremely helpful and nothing was to hard for her! The hotel is well tended, the rooms are nice and clean.
The reception closes at 11.00 P.M. and opens in the morning, but we were given a telephone number to call in a case of emergency. When we got back to the hotel the first night of our stay, around midnight, a little kitten apparently got trapped in the breakfast lounge that is adjoined to the hotel. The lounge was locked so there was nothing we could have done by our selves. The kitten was desperately calling for help, making a lot of noise. As I felt sorry for the little kitten and also to make the noise stop I called the number we were given. The person on the other line was totally unhelpful and ineffective. I needed good 20 minutes (of expensive minutes) to even convince him that I was not making it up... I feel sorry that this strange "episode" ruined a bit the good feeling we got at the welcoming to the hotel.

I faced some frustrating issues. The toaster malfunctioned, causing an outage that took a while to resolve, although the staff were friendly. The room lighting was poorly designed. Lastly, the hotel's location was a challenge. Reaching the funicular was a long drive instead of a pleasant walk, disappointing.

The receptionist could not have been more helpful in recommending somewhere to eat in Bilbao suggestions for parking etc. Good position for the ferry to Portsmouth.
There is no restaurant at the hotel and the only one nearby is very expensive and has a limited m enu. Therefore the only options are either a chinese take away at the hotel or driving into Bilbao itself.

Location is excellent, also staff were friendly. Sometimes too friendly.
No ac on the room, had to open windows, mosquitoes invaded us!

fine gardens overlooking Bilbao, free parking, cozy typical rooms
The water-vapor fan system isn't enough on hot nights!!! The kettle providing only green tea feels cheap. Better ventilation needed in bathrooms to avoid damp smells!!! Some rooms could benefit from a revamp!!!

Because we were travelling by car the location was ideal. Views from hotel of Bilbao were ealy nice and clean. Sinple breakfast was what we wanted. Restaurants thin on gound loclally hence having car useful for getting into town. Taxi an alternative. Staff very polite, friendly and helpfull.

A view to die for overlooking Bilbao. Although we only stayed for one night prior to catching the ferry to Portsmouth early the next day we thought that the hotel was very good. We would recommend it highly and will definitely use it again.
Difficult to find even using the satnav. Had to ask a policeman.
